The Original Woodstock Festival Plans a Global 30th Anniversary in 1999
NEW YORK, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Woodstock Ventures' Michael Lang, Joel
Rosenman and John Roberts, the producers of the original 1969 Woodstock
Festival, and Metropolitan Entertainment Group CEO John Scher, their partner
in the 1994 Woodstock Festival, announced today that details for a landmark
30th Anniversary Celebration will soon be released. "Woodstock 1999 -- One
World" will be a global event presented simultaneously in the United States
and Europe.
In 1994 the unique institution known for 25 years simply as Woodstock, was
born again in Saugerties, New York. Once again, more then 350,000 people
gathered on a farm in upstate New York, for a rainy, muddy weekend of love,
peace and happiness and created a new Woodstock nation. The event spawned a
gold album and home video, and was the most watched musical pay-per-view event
in the history of cable television. Much like the 1969 event, artists
including Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Sheryl Crow, Live
and the Rollins Band exploded out of Woodstock 1994.
Over the past several months the 4 producers have been flooded with inquiries
from around the world about a 30th Anniversary festival. In response to this
demand, and to avoid confusion with any other event, the producers felt
compelled to let the world know how the anniversary plans were progressing.
Woodstock is a state of mind as much as it is a place. It is about new
cutting edge artists together with established musical giants of a particular
era, that in 1994 included Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Aerosmith and Metallica,
performing at a gathering of hundreds of thousands of people, living in a
world of peace and music for an ideal weekend. "Woodstock 1999 -- One World"
will give fans the opportunity to celebrate the music and culture that
stretches from the 1960's into the next century.
Details about the event will be announced over the next few months. The shows
will take place in Austria and in upstate New York. It is the belief of all
of the producers that in the summer of 1999, as we approach the Millenium,
Woodstock will once again be the most spectacular, defining musical event of
its time.
